What is a good begginer's synthesizer?

I listen to alot of metal(all sorts of ranges) and like some techno and trance, but just found a band called Eden Synthetic Corps. I guess theyre classified as harsh ebm. My friend is letting me borrow his Korg Electribe and yea it has a billion switches that i have no idea what to do with. Should i buy it off him for about 350 dollars, or get something not so advanced?
ok well i think im going to buy it because it is a great price, however i still have no idea how to use it. ive read through more than half the manual and slightly understand the controls, but i dont even know where to begin! i want to make music, not just edit a billion different sound samples. is there anywhere on the internet i can find like a begginners guide to creating ebm?

The price is good if you get it at that price. That little unit can be used as a workstation to build tracks, then as a performance synth. The Electribe MX provides nine drum parts, five synth parts, plus accent parts that let you add dynamic accents to the drum and synth parts (for a total of 16 parts). So, you can rock on dude.

Get it while the price last or offer him $300 which I doubt he would sell it for that. Also, you won't find a synthesizer for what you want to pay , which will have the nice effects this Korg has.

Before giving the cash, check on e-bay. One guy almost gave one away for $150.
